  ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE

An executive of eleven people manages the organization, nine of which are full time office functionaries. The business community is very fortunate to have the services of such a dedicated and selfless men and women who providing their services without being paid. Offices of the chamber operate from eight in the morning to four thirty in the afternoon. It has been more than three years that the office team has been working without being paid. The Alexandra Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit making business organization, which is registered under section 21.

MEMBERS OF THE EXECUTIVE

PRESIDENT: Mr. Joe Manana who is the backbone of the organization with his abundant skills in communication, negotiations, information and coordination. The Alex branch members are very fortunate to have a person of his caliber as their leader; he should be serving in higher structures of Nafcoc nationally.

SECRETARY: Mr. Raymond Sibanda is the engine of the organization that plays a major role in the development of the community socially, economically and politically. He is playing a role in ensuring that realizable changes in the economical empowerment and community development.

DEPUTY SECRETARY: Mrs. Violet Mabaso spearheads the women's development through the Alexcoc sewing project. She would like to see all Africans women in particular running in the forefront of the economy, and would also want to see Africans being able to produce their own fabric based on African culture.

TREASURE: Mr. Sonnyboy Mahubane would like to see Africans prosper and the maintenance of peace and harmony. And that people should not be apologetic about their achievements through hard work, and services should be provided to the people.

ADDITIONAL EXECUTIVE MEMBERS

Mrs. Daisy Ngubane is a member of the executive who is heading the catering department. The project is involved in the training of the youth who interested in becoming chefs and waiters.

Mrs Nomvuyo Manana heads the retailing committee. She is determined to see women being uplifted and being able to benefit from their own products. Currently she is leading the juice project.

Mr. Sishi Botipe is the secretary of the construction subcommittee; currently they are building three classrooms at the Kwabhekilanga High School. The chamber has won this project so that local contractors can be empowered. He is a dedicated leader.

Mr. Sam Radebe is the chairperson of the constructors and a very ambitious leader who wants people to do things right. He would like to see the wheel turning and black people being in the lead.

Ms. Mamikie Nguyuza was appointed by the taxi association to represent them in the chamber as they as they are associate members. She feels the involvement of Alexcoc with the taxi industry is of great benefit.

Mr. Thabo Leballo is also the project manager at the Kwabhekilanga high school. He is good in setting up programs for the contractors. The chamber uses him in terms of helping contractors work out their tenders.

Because of its dynamic nature the chamber have established subcommittees that will ensure the implementation of programs as adopted by the congress. The following are Alexcoc's subcommittees.

MEMBERSHIP

The membership of the chamber is divided into two i.e. ordinary members who pay an annual fee at an amount of one hundred and seventy rands. Associate members are well-established business consisting of highly qualified professionals. The number of chamber members is 2500.


ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP

Alexcoc associates consist of Alexandra Taxi Association, ARMSTA, Israel Chamber of Commerce, Owen Bloomberg, SIP Project Managers, Jullian Architects, Vick Schneider (McCreedy and Freedlander). Sam Hallatt, Standard Bank SA. Discussions were held with JCCI Johannesburg Chamber Of Commerce and Industry who are interested in a joint venture with Alexcoc to establish regional structures.

RELATIONSHIP WITH LOCAL GOVERNMENT

Alexcoc has very good relationship with the local councils and officials at Region 3 and Region 7, which are operating between Alexandra and Sandton.

FUNDRAISING STRATEGIES

Currently it is very difficult ask for funding assistance from any company unless these companies have some interests in the township. The chamber has adopted a principle not to beg for money from anyone. It would perform certain tasks for any company that has any business interest in the township.

VISION

Alexcoc's vision is to become a national module in creating economic development a secured, and a healthy community.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the chamber is to bring hope to the unemployed by encouraging local business activities and creating awareness to the community regarding the support of local business efforts.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

To unite all business in Alexandra and the surrounding areas under one organization so that business people can speak with one voice.
To act as the mouthpiece of the members on all the matters affecting their business.
To facilitate communication with the local authority on legislation affecting local business.
To encourage members to engage in collective bargaining.
To protect the interest of the members by discouraging unfair business practices from whatever quarters within the Greater Alexandra.
o open channels for members to expand and develop their businesses through access to funds and training.
To financially, economically empower members through strategic links with organizations with the same objectives as ALEXCOC.
To assist in the socio development of the Greater Alexandra populace through participating in community projects.
To establish an investment fund or an empowerment company.
